Rule the world electronically! Rise evil geniuses!

March 26, 2009

If you read enough of these things (blogs), you’ll become an evil genius and rule the world!

Ok, maybe not. But it is a great way to get to know each other. I am Paul McDowell. You may have seen me around. I am the President of Padma Gonpo, Inc., the preeminent source for all things sustainable. Where most companies provide a “small category specialty” like solar power or geothermal environmental controls, our company provides value focused solutions for total sustainability. That includes sourcing and if necessary, manufacturing any solution needed.

My specialty is industry creation and market sector development. In simple terms, I solve problems and find ways that empower people to have what they want and need. To accomplish this, I need smart friends. I have three Ph. D.s (Automation and Robotics, Advanced Information Sciences & Adult learning technology and Ancient Studies), so, as you can see, my interests span quite a range of human issues.

In my corporation, we have an aerospace engineer, a biologist, a computer scientist and a former college professor among other distinguished individuals.

When it comes to sustainability, we are serious about being the professional resource for all things sustainable. We are currently working on establishing a low-mass-vehicle manufacturing center (the vehicles go 80 mpg and get between 125 and 225 mpg. – that’s 1000 miles on a tank of fuel!)

We are also busy with providing individuals with tools to survive and actually thrive in this new economy. I just finished an Audio CD called “Persuasion Party” that introduces persuasion skills that anyone can use to establish a better life – the exact kind of life they want. Email me if you are interested, and I can send you the information on how to get one.

Padma Gonpo, Inc. is also offering its internal certification to a limited number of you (only 100 registered people allowed for this price). We know it will need a bit of work before it is perfect, and we are rewarding people that want the certification (you won’t believe what is in this) for a significantly reduced price just for the help and participation rolling it out. Once again, email me if you are interested and I’ll tell you more, or you can visit www.padmagonpoinc.com and look for our certification announcement in the body text on our main page.

Also, I have another blog for sustainability on wordpress at totallysustainablesolutions.wordpress.com

The idea here is to get as much information to the public about what real sustainability is and overcome the rhetoric that the media and want-to-be experts are flooding the market with. The truth is, sustainability is a complex issue and recycling and communes are not going to fix anything. Green is not the answer, it has too narrow of a focus and blindly adding solar power and geothermal heat to your house won’t cut it either.

You have to take two pillars of sustainability into account. Health and Wealth are integral areas of concern in this industry. If you are flat broke, your health fails quickly. If you are not healthy, no amount of wealth will carry you into the next decade and increase your overall life conditions.

Sustainability is usually described as “the ability to provide for the needs of people today without damaging the ability of future generations to provide for themselves.” – Not bad. I have a little better idea though. Since we have the technology for it, why don’t we define it like this:

“Create a world where society has a positive impact on the planet and itself.” This implies that we actually increase what is available to us tomorrow and to those future generations, they inherit a vast wealth, greater than what we have today.

Sure, I have my critics, believe me. I’ve been called a lot of things by people that have done nothing of value to mankind other than sit at home (probably on subsistence) and blog horrible lies and mis-quoted, out of context stuff. Those people always exist. The universities of the world are really angry about the “Master’s of Sustainability Certification Program” that we are rolling out. It’s not a masters degree, it is a private certification by a company engaged in delivering total sustainability solutions on a daily basis. It is extremely intense and provides eight levels of certification, all bundled into one certification program. Literally, you learn four technical certifications, a consulting level certification, a comprehensive sustainability engineering level where you art taught step by step everything you need to know to design and develop turn-key complete solutions for people and companies. And that is topped off with a final certification level that teaches you how to be the expert’s expert.

Now do you see why some people hate me. I don’t settle for status quo or mediocre solutions. You deserve the best and it is our mission to provide it.

So, the purpose of this site is to give anyone interested in joining the movement for a sustainable future a place to go and stay informed, participate and generally find out what is real and what is just BS market babble.

I hope that we will all make a better world for ourselves and all future humans.

Ask me anything, really!

Small Business Economic Relief in a Down Economy

March 8, 2009

In my search for best practices to expose on this blog, I ran across this advice from Dave Lakhani (www.boldapproach.com) on advice that Small businesses right now, need to be looking at. He suggests things like:

- Do I have adequate cash flow currently and (realistically) projected to support my business for the coming 18 months?
- Which of my current customers are likely to fail or not be able to meet their obligations to me and how will I handle them differently based on those projections?
- Am I aggressively building a cash reserve for the business and for myself personally?
- Is my customer acquisition strategy effective for the market?
- Do I have adequate credit to withstand a medium to significant change in income?
- What can I do to deepen my relationship with my existing clients and how can we work together to make each other’s business stronger?
- What do I need to understand about the economy and how it might impact my business that I don’t understand now. What would inflation for example do to my business? What would even tighter credit markets do? What risk will I have to assume to get credit I need?
- What strategy changes do I need to make to navigate these times?
- What economic indicators should I pay attention to in order to know when to make the next changes in my business?
- What cost cutting or bottom line revenue generating activities can I take internally to maximize profits?
- Who should I really be studying and listening to in order to maximize my opportunity and grow my business in this economy?
- If 20% of your sales staff is responsible for 80-90% of your income, should you still support your lowest performing salesperson? Same for manufacturing staff, same for admin staff etc.
- What am I doing to make my brand stronger and extend it into appropriate new markets?
- Do my advertising and marketing efforts have a strong ROI?
- Am I understanding and embracing new technologies that will allow me to extend my message to the place where the audience is?
- What can I do to get more competitive and more visible?
- What is the most important story I can tell in this economy?
- What can I do to improve my customer service and make it memorable?
- How can I create an unforgettable experience for my clients?
- Create process maps and document systems that can be replicated and learned.
- Practice Fearsome Focus and the 45/15 process I describe in The Power of an Hour.

Mr. Lakhani is a premier speaker and consultant in the world of business marketing and optimization. I like his approach to the bigger business issues facing small businesses in the new ecomomy, so it is with my sincere hope that the prospectives presented here are a help. For the whole article, please visit his site and spend a few minutes exploring what he had to offer.
